About MemDecks

MemDecks is built by Sergey Belousov, a software engineer living in Yerevan, Armenia. It is not a company, not a team and not venture-funded: one person writes it, and support email reaches that person directly. It exists because learning Armenian made it obvious that the good vocabulary tools serve big languages well and small ones badly.

Who builds MemDecks

Sergey Belousov, a software engineer based in Yerevan, Armenia. He designs, writes, deploys and supports MemDecks; there is no other staff. Development is public at github.com/belousovsn.

Email sent to support@memdecks.com arrives at that person. There is no ticket queue, no chatbot, and no tier-one support script in between.

Why MemDecks exists

The immediate reason was Armenian. Living in Yerevan and trying to learn the language, the tools available split into two unsatisfying halves: apps with beautiful courses that do not cover Armenian at all, and flashcard software that covers everything but hands you an empty program and a scheduling algorithm and wishes you luck.

Neither half helps with the part that is actually hard: assembling a few hundred words that matter to your life and then meeting them often enough for them to stick. MemDecks is an attempt at exactly that middle. You bring or choose the words. It attaches a picture, a pronunciation and a script rendering. Then it gives you small games built out of your own words, so that meeting them again is something you might want to do.

What MemDecks is built to believe

  • The words should be yours. A generic beginner course cannot know that you need the word for "landlord" this month.
  • A missed week should cost nothing. MemDecks stores no review dates and builds no backlog. Here is what it does instead, including what that gives up.
  • Small languages deserve the same machinery as large ones. Armenian and Greek get purpose-built transliteration and chosen voice profiles, not a fallback.
  • Free should mean free. No tier, no ads, no data sale. Pricing says so with a date on it.
  • Say what the product actually does. Including where it is inconsistent — the guest limits on the pricing page are written that way on purpose.
