MemDecks

Pricing

MemDecks is free

MemDecks is free. There is no paid tier, no subscription, no trial period, no card required and no advertising in the app, as of 2 September 2026. The only thing an account costs is an email address or a Google sign-in, and the reason to create one is durability: a MemDecks collection made without an account lives in one browser and can be lost.

The price

Zero. MemDecks does not charge for anything as of 2 September 2026: no subscription, no one-off purchase, no paid content packs, no paid games, no advertising inside the app, and no payment details collected anywhere in the product.

There is no paid tier waiting behind a "coming soon". If paid tiers are ever introduced, this page changes and states the date they took effect. Until then, the sentence at the top of this page is the whole pricing model.

Guest session versus account

MemDecks has two kinds of user. Visiting the site creates a guest session — an anonymous account tied to that browser — so you can start immediately. Registering turns it into a permanent account and keeps everything the guest built.

The difference that matters is durability. There are also four capability limits on a guest session today, and they are listed honestly below rather than glossed over.

What the guest limits actually do

Two of the rows above need their exact behaviour stated, because a summary would be misleading.

The 10-card cap is counted across the whole collection but enforced in one place. As of 2 September 2026 the check runs on the Translator's save action. A guest whose collection already holds 10 cards — however they arrived — cannot save an eleventh from the Translator. Cards arriving from a Phrase Builder lesson, an Anki import, or a deck you built yourself are not stopped by that check. This inconsistency is known and is being removed; when it is, this page changes.

Translation degrades rather than refusing. A guest can look up any word already in the MemDecks dictionary, which is most common vocabulary. A word that is not there is not fetched from the translation provider for a guest. It looks like the word is missing rather than like a limit; that is a flaw in the current behaviour, not the intent.

What an account costs

An email address, or a Google sign-in. That is the entire price.

MemDecks does not ask for a name, a phone number, a date of birth, a payment method, or a reason for learning. It does not sell data and it has no advertising business to sell it to. The privacy policy states what is stored and why.

Signing up from a guest session merges everything that session holds — cards, decks, subscriptions and progress — into the new account. Nothing is redone and nothing is lost in the transfer.

What happens to a guest collection

A guest session is an anonymous account stored in one browser. It disappears if that browser's storage is cleared, and it does not follow you to another device or another browser. MemDecks additionally has a purge for anonymous accounts that have been inactive for 30 days, and it is entitled to run it.

Why it is free, and what that means for you

MemDecks is built by one person and does not employ anyone. It has no investors to return money to, no growth target, and no advertising. Running it costs real money — translation, speech synthesis, image search and hosting all bill per use — and that cost is currently absorbed rather than charged.

You should know what that implies. A free product run by one person can change or stop. MemDecks does not currently guarantee an uptime figure or a service level, and this page will say so plainly for as long as it is true. What it does guarantee is that the pricing statement here is checked whenever the product changes and carries the date it was checked.

When this page changes

This page is reviewed whenever a limit, a tier, or a price changes, and it carries the date of the last review at the top. Four things would trigger a rewrite: introducing any paid tier, changing what a guest session can do, changing the retention window for anonymous accounts, or adding advertising. If none of those has happened, the date at the top is the date the facts were last confirmed against the product.
