Word cards

A MemDecks card is one word in one study language, saved by one learner. It carries an English side and a study-language side, an image, audio where the language has it, a Latin transliteration where the script needs one, and two numbers — score and card HP — that describe how much practice it has had against how much it needs. Everything else on a card is optional and can arrive later.

A card belongs to one learner and one language

Cards are not shared objects. Saving "bread" while studying Greek creates a Greek card in your collection; it does not appear if you switch to Japanese. Saving "bread" again under Japanese creates a second, separate card with its own card HP and its own progress.

This is why MemDecks asks you to pick one study language at a time. The collection you see, the games you can play, and the topic packs on offer all follow that choice.

Enrichment: the detail beyond the translation

Beyond a single translation, MemDecks can attach structured lexical detail to a word: its part of speech, grammatical gender and article where the language has them, distinct senses with a short gloss each, example sentences with their translations, and synonyms tagged by register — common, formal, colloquial, literary, archaic, poetic, technical or rare.

Enrichment is produced independently of the translation and independently of audio. A card whose enrichment has not arrived is a complete, usable card; it simply shows less. Treat its absence as "not yet", not as an error.

How audio behaves

MemDecks does not synthesise speech at the moment you press play. It generates the audio once, stores the file, and plays the stored file thereafter. The consequence a learner notices: a word nobody has ever saved before may be silent for a few seconds after you save it, and then gain a speaker button.

Armenian and Greek use a Gemini voice profile picked for those languages. The other fourteen study languages use the standard Google voice. Cards imported from an Anki package can also carry their own audio from the original deck.

Editing and deleting cards

Cards live in the Collection tab, where they can be reviewed and removed. Removing a card removes it from every game that would have drawn it. Progress on a removed card is not preserved.
