Alphabet Quest: read your way into a new alphabet
Learn a foreign alphabet by reading texts that gradually shift from English into the target script.
How it works
One letter at a time, inside text you understand
You read short English stories. Each time you learn a letter, that letter is swapped for its counterpart in the new script, everywhere in the text. The words stay English, so you always know what you are reading.

Meet a letter
Letters come in order of how often English uses them, starting with e, t, a, so the first few already change most of a page.
- 02
Read with it
Three short texts show the new letter in place, with a quiz and a word list between them.
- 03
Drill the pairs
After five letters, quick multiple-choice drills ask you to match an English letter to its new shape.
- 04
Decipher a story
When the whole alphabet is learned, a story is shown entirely in the new script, followed by questions about what it said.
See the shift
The same sentence as you progress
This is the sentence "The cat sat on the mat." from the first story, as the game shows it after 3 letters, after 10, and with the whole alphabet learned.
| Alphabet | After 3 letters | After 10 letters | Whole alphabet |
|---|---|---|---|
| Armenian | Տhե cատ sատ on տhե mատ. | Տհե cատ սատ ոն տհե mատ. | Տհե ցատ սատ ոն տհե մատ. |
| Greek | Τhε cατ sατ on τhε mατ. | Τηε cατ σατ ον τηε mατ. | Τηε ψατ σατ ον τηε ματ. |
| Russian | Тhе cат sат on тhе mат. | Тхе cат сат он тхе mат. | Тхе кат сат он тхе мат. |
The pairing of English letters with the new script is a reading aid. It is how the game gets you used to the shapes, not a transliteration of the language itself.

Questions
Alphabet Quest, briefly
Which alphabets does Alphabet Quest teach?
Armenian, Greek and Russian. In any other study language the game is hidden, because there is no new alphabet to learn or no content pack for it yet.
Do I need to know any words first?
No. The texts are English, so you already understand them. Only the letters change, which is why the game needs no cards and no vocabulary.
Does it teach how the language sounds?
It teaches you to recognise the letters, not to pronounce the language. Each English letter is paired with one letter of the new script, which is a reading aid and not a pronunciation guide.
Do I need an account?
No. MemDecks starts a guest session for you when you open the game.
